Key Takeaways

• The top-heavy pull-forward dual hinge unbalances the chassis, easily toppling backward when used on a lap or bed.
• Tipping the scales past 2.1kg and over 21mm thick, it has completely abandoned the concept of portability.
• Still clinging to the fragile proprietary Surface Connect magnetic port in 2026 that disconnects with a gentle bump.
• Twin cooling fans generate an unbearable high-pitched whine under load that penetrates quiet office spaces.

✅ Pros

• Versatile three-stage form factor tailored for digital sketching
• Tactile haptic feedback on Surface Slim Pen 2 feels sublime
• Crisp 120Hz PixelSense touchscreen with immaculate color

❌ Cons

• Top-heavy center of gravity flips backward on laps
• Bulky 2.1kg brick weight strains commuters
• Fussy proprietary Surface Connect magnetic port
• Shrill, piercing fan noise during demanding workloads

📝 Verdict

"Surface Laptop Ultra has brilliant stylus inputs ruined by a heavy, top-heavy chassis and piercing fan whine."
